What does infected chicken pox look like?

My daughter is on day four of chicken pox. I've attached a photo on my profile. She's in quite a lot of pain, although not very itchy, and is feverish and off her food. I called the GP and described one of the spots, as it looked infected to me, and they said they would only prescribe antibiotics if there were three similar ones in a row all connected. Can anyone who knows about chicken pox take a look and tell me if they think she's OK? I am reluctant to put her through the pain of a trip to the doctor if they will tell me I'm over worrying. She is two.

my gp prescribed antibiotic cream for one infected spot on my dds face. I with i'd gone sooner as 2 years later it's the only visible,though faint, scar.

Your adds look much worse in comparison, so Id get down the OOH sharpest.

My son had cp like this and no antibiotics were given. He now has some really deep scarring to his face. I'll never know whether that would have happened anyway and to me he is still beautiful but they are very obvious and have not lessened over time .

The OOH is seeing her in an hour and thinks she has a skin infection.

Yes, definitely infected and in urgent need of antibiotics. My ds had one spot infected and a high temp and was prescribed antibiotics. If no joy from OOH, go to A&E.

My ds has just had cp and they didn't look like this. Poor thing, hope you got on ok at ooh.

OOH have sent us to A&E. They think she needs IV antibiotics and both doctors we saw were very shocked and said they'd never seen such nasty sores. I feel very foolish for thinking it was just bad chicken pox.

Ouch they look really sore poor thing. I've had 3dc with chicken pox but nothing like that :(

Don't feel daft, it's so hard judging what is normal and what isn't. Hope she starts to feel better soon.

Oh and have a word with your doctor when you get back. Sounds like he could do with learning all about it.

They are doing the right thing OP. My DD had the same and the IV really halts what can be a very dangerous infection that can spread to the soft tissue. It's great they have it under control. She will be fine.

Thanks. We were given the option of going home or staying in, and as they obviously thought going home would be OK and my daughter was desperate for her cot (it was 11.30 before we were seen) then we chose that for now. But we have to see a doctor today, and will have to get 4x10ml antibiotics into her every day, which she has already decided she doesn't like. She threw up some of last night's so I'm not sure how well it will have worked. She also let us put fucidin cream on the sores last night but I don't know if that was just because she was exhausted.

Back at the hospital today having got nowhere with the oral antibiotics. Today's doctor says she's not infected, just bad chicken pox, and no IV antibiotics needed. It's all quite frustrating.

Chicken pox can itself just be vile apparently. Google images proves that! We have oral antibiotics and fucidin cream and are about to give the poor thing an antiseptic bath.
