When would you worry with nosebleeds?

DS gets them fairly regularly. When it gets too hot, when it gets too cold and the central heating is on, when he has a cold, if he is stressed about something. Generally, not a worry except for calming him down as he tends to get quite distressed by it (he's 5.)

He's been ill since the weekend, saw the doctor yesterday who prescribed antibiotics for scarlet fever, and since then he's been having quite a few - initially 2 in 24 hours, one smallish one overnight which didn't wake him, and one this afternoon which went on for maybe a few minutes because DH appeared with his medicine halfway through which made him start crying again!

Anyway, eventually got it under control, he was calm, I went to work and DH says he has had 2 or 3 more this evening. He's gone to bed now, he doesn't seem pale or dehydrated, but I wondered if we are being too blase about it? Is there anything we need to look out for?

BTW not in the UK so cannot ring NHS direct. I spoke to his doctor earlier (when he'd just had 2) and he said it's likely to be the virus and not to worry.

My Dr said not to worry unless it goes on for 20mins or more.

My dd used to have them a lot and they were quite dramatic, lots of blood!

But she hasn't had as many fir a few mths and I think she may be growing out of it.

I have had her checked over by a gp who seemed to think she just had sensitive/delicate blood vessels in her nose.

My dd got them if she cried, temp changes, if she is sick, has cold/cough or virus.

As long as he seems ok I wouldn't worry but get an app to get him checked over tomorrow?

dd (10) goes through phases of having them e.g. the other day she had 3 at school but then none since. At one point she had a nasal spray prescribed in case it was hayfever related but it never really made much difference. She's quite blase about them now.

I presumed it was nothing that could be treated but happened to mention it to the GP who prescribed an ointment to put in the nose
which worked for at least 6 months maybe a year. They returned again and we got another prescription and has been fine for about a year now.

My dd tends to go in phases too - can have a few in one day, or lots over a few days, then might go for a couple of weeks without having any. Like 5MadThings, not to worry unless are prolonged, as in 20mins / 1/2 hr plus

he had an opperation where they burnt the inside of his nose (smelt like bacon for a few days after yuk!) and now they have stopped.

The Dr said that they were (for dp) not dangerous, just anoying.

Probably best to ask the Dr again.
