How long has it been going on? You need a specialist such as a gastroenterologist if it is long term. What treatment have the GP and paed given??

IHaveSeenMyHat · 01/03/2014 22:32

Does he have any sort of diagnosis? First thing to come to mind is encopresis.

You need to rattle some cages. Are school helping ? Is it full, soiling or skid marks ?

There is a book recommended on a similar thread by another mumsnetter called constipation, soiling and your child. I recommend you get hold of a copy (it's on amazon).

Has your son been prescribed a laxative? Movicol can work absolute wonders but not everyone gets on with it. If you can find a laxative that works and your ds is able to take some responsibility for his own health it is a problem that can be fixed.

My ds had this and I went to a paediatrician who said it was due to constipation and an enlarged rectum my ds is now on laxatives and stool softening movicol to train him to go to the toilet more often. How often does your ds go to the toilet?

You need to find a good paediatric gastroenterologist who has experience with constipation.
