One year old had cough for about two months

I know the weather is cold and miserable and everyone has a cold. But my 12 month old has had a phlegmy type cough for about two months. She is otherwise fine, eating and sleeping all night (now and then wakes up to cough but then gets back to sleep again). My elder daughter (nearly 3) had the same cold but got over it in a week.

DH (who worries more than me) thinks I should take her to the Dr and ask for a chest x-ray. I did take her to the Dr 2 months ago when this cold started and the Dr had a quick listen to her chest and said it was 'clear'. What does everyone think?

I think that a cough lasting more than 2 weeks should be checked.

Your dh is being sensible not a worrier.

take her to the gp she probably has an infection

the GP won't think you're wasting their time if you're worried about a cough that has gone on that long

I will take her to GP. She seems fine and energetic and doesn't cough constantly, just now and then. So hope I won't be seen as a timewaster but better to get it checked I agree.

Also I was just chatting to my friend on Facebook and she says it might be asthma (my friend has asthma). Will def go to GP on Monday. Thanks everyone.

At that age ds used to get coughs that lasted ages. takes after me
They were always "upper airways" rather than chest - ventolin for a short while would do the trick

Thanks everyone - I took her to Dr yesterday and was told her chest is clear and there is nothing much wrong, a mild infection, no treatment needed. Dr says if she still has the cough in the summer to come back!!

My DS had a persistent cough and I was told it could be childhood asthma.
