shaking 13 month old

I wanting some advise I have a 13 month old dd when she gets excited she clenchs her hand and smiles and shakes but for the last 3 days that me and my partner have noticed when she's sitting doing something or watching tv she shakes her head and body and sometimes her eyes go up but it never lasts long. Been to health visitor and they've asked for video so they can see but was just wanting some advise

Hi, I am usually pro health visitors but in this case go to your GP and get a referral to a paediatrician. It may be nothing but there is no point in worrying. I definitely wouldn't be following a 13 month old around with a video camera. If you feel that she does this behaviour predictably you might catch some footage easily but I would be reluctant to spend time on it.Take care.

She had a fever fit when she was 6 months old and they said there wouldn't be any damage but I was maybe thinking it may have done. I did manage to get a but a video as she is sitting next to me watching the music channels. She seems ok in her self just shakes when she's doing something

Are you sure these aren't seizures that she's having? Especially if her eyes roll upwards. I would take her to GP not health visitor.

You need to go to the dr. in case she is having epileptic seizures (eg. triggered by TV). Seizures can also be triggered by being too tired, too excited etc so I really do think you need to go sooner rather than later so you can get a neurology referral for an EEG and MRI. Good luck.

Thank you for the replys I have a an appointment coming up the health visitor seen her do it before I even shown her the video she said she has never seen it before she said it may not be anything it could be a tick or a seizure. She's not behind in any off her milestones she's a healthy happy baby she did say is she tired aftershe does it which she ain't she only has one sleep during the day

I bet this is nothing to worry about, in fact, i wouldnt swear to this, i am pretty sure my DD did similar when she was a baby - the worlds and exciting place! However, i think i would get the GP to check, just to put my mind at rest.

My partner says she is excited but I can tell the difference between her being excited and this it could just be me worrying but I have this feeling I need to get it seen to even if it turns out to be nothing least I know I've get nothing to worry bout

Def go to the Drs to rule out that it's anything serious but just to put ur mind at rest a little it could b something v innocent. All 3 of my own dc and 2 of my nieces and all 4 nephews used to clench their fists and shake if they were excited about something. Hope ur dd is ok x

The HV can refer like a doctor can so its not a bad thing to go to the HV at all. Could they be petit mals?

Sorry to sound dumb but what is petit mals. I have an appointment coming up I have managed to get some video of her doing it just incase she doesn't do it when at the docs. The health visitor seen her both excited and just doing the head shake buy she never rolled her eyes but did say she doesn't always roll her eyes when she does shake. She does clench her fists and shakes when she's excited but there is just a gut feeling that there maybe something else if not I would be happy I got it checked tho

Sorry for the late reply. Petit mals are minor fits but they sit under the epilepsy banner. Grand Mals are the full on epileptic seizures you hear about. Petit mals can be pre-cursors to full seizures or they can exist alone. Sometimes in older children and adults they can manifest themselves as suddenly spacing out, then focussing in again.

Hey just wanted to say we've been through a similar experience with our dd.

She started having what looked like mini electric shocks . They usually happened when she was excited but then went away . They returned and we took her to a&e under advice of a doctor and they did blood tests etc .

We had another hospital appointment at which they did a EEG of her head .

They were brilliant and took everything seriously but it turned out she had benign myoclonus which she will ( and has now at 9 months ) grown out of . The consultant compared it to the jerks you get when you're falling asleep .

Just take your dc to get checked and it will probably be nothing but best to check . Good luck and hope it's just the same as my dd
