Anyone's DS had testosterone injections for delayed puberty?

My DS1 is 14 and saw an endocrinologist yesterday who has recommended he start on a very low dose of testosterone to kick-start puberty. DS is not showing any signs of puberty at all, thanks to low weight (he has SNs which have affected his eating). He is very embarrassed about it and is keen to start the injections.

I just wondered if anyone else's child had had this treatment. If so, what can we expect? The consultant said there are no unwanted side effects apart from some normal teenage moodiness and grumpiness. He said the hormone should also make DS more active, which will then lead to increased appetite, which he badly needs.

Sorry no advice but watching with interest. My nearly 15 year old is underweight due to Crohns. Like your son he is very self conscious of it. I thought about asking the consultant about growth hormones. Hope some advice comes along soon

Definitely worth asking, late. We were referred by Ds1's psychiatrist because she said his low weight was inhibiting puberty - and it seems she was right. Has your son still managed to start puberty or is he delayed too? DS1 recently returned to school and had to put up with lots of remarks about his 'squeaky' voice, which have made him very self conscious.

My DS is quite different because he is overweight and showing no signs of puberty at all at age 13 , he has very baby- like skin and a squeaky voice, he recently visited the doctor due to being self conscious about his "private area" (particularly when he has to get changed for swimming lessons)

Your poor DS, Nicole . Did the dr say everything was ok or refer him to an endocrinologist?

I was told that if there was no signs of change by November he may refer him to an endocrinologist
