My teenage son was diagnosed with cancer on boxing day - we thought he had a cold - and it's incurable. Every piece of news we hear is worse than the last one. We have a few months left only. Is there anyone out there going through something like this - or anyone who has lost a child. I thought it might be good for my sanity to start talking and perhaps even writing ... but not sure where to begin. Worried too about how to protect my 11 year old daughter.

Sorru my phone is playing up. So sorry to hear this ,it must be awful for you and your family. Hopefully someone else will be along with something better to say. I lost my baby at 37 weeks,he was stillborn, quite different to your situation but just wanted to share so you dont feel alone. Keep posting on here, mumsnet hasbeen great for me through my difficult times.

Salbertina · 20/01/2014 11:01

Am so sorry to hear that, however very little saying that must help.
Not in same position but hope this bumps up your post, sure some people can offer mutual support. Can the hospital put you in touch with support/charities? For your dd, is there something like Winston's wish? I think thats for kids who've lost a parent, may be something similar. You're in my thoughts.

AnyFucker · 20/01/2014 11:03

I am so sorry. Have you posted this in the correct place, love ? This doesn't have much traffic and I would hate for many people to not get the opportunity to comment/send their best wishes.

BaronessBomburst · 20/01/2014 11:05

I really don't know what to say. Just sending love and bumping for you.

RunRunRuby · 20/01/2014 11:05

Have you been referred to CLIC Sargent? (Assuming you're in UK) they really helped me during my treatment and will be able to help you access services you may need for your son but also support for your daughter and the rest of the family. I'm so sorry xx

5madthings · 20/01/2014 11:08

Winstons Wish is excellent at helping you support siblings who are facing loss or who have experienced loss.

Here is their site. Contact them as soon as you can to help you bear this.

Sending you love. There are no words to express how sorry I am. Flowers

AnyFucker · 20/01/2014 11:21

I have had a quick scout around to find the children with cancer thread and can't find it.

Would it be ok if I reported your original post and asked HQ what they suggest ?

Trazzletoes · 20/01/2014 11:25

So sorry to hear your news. My DS has been undergoing cancer treatment. Sending massive hugs. I'm off to find the Children with Cancer link.

Lozcat86 · 20/01/2014 11:25

So sorry Jess
Thanks
there's nothing I can say to take the pain away but have you had contact with your local childrens hospice? I'm a paed nurse at a children's hospice and they provide a lot of support for your son and all your family right now and indefinitely. Your sons health care team can make the referral for you. There is usually sibling support groups to help your daughter to cope as well as counselling and support services for you and your DH. They will of course also help your son to deal with his fears and feelings.
Hope that's of some help
X

AnyFucker · 20/01/2014 11:26

I found this one but it is full. However, I am sure there will be links to another to replace at the end and lots for you to read.

If you go to "advanced search" at the top right of this screen and type "children with cancer" into the top search box and leave the rest blank, quite a few threads come up (I am very sorry to say).

Trazzletoes · 20/01/2014 11:27

We're a friendly lot and there are people in the same situation as you.

My cousin died from cancer many years ago and I know how this affected my family so whilst my experience is different I may understand a little of what you are facing. I'm so sorry to hear your news, I have no advice, just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you and your family. I hope you are able to get some good support in real life x
