Silent Reflux - Help :(

Hiya
My son is 9 weeks old and is on Ranitidine for silent reflux. When he was given the medication he weighed 5kg. The doctor who gave him the medication was useless, I basically said I want Ranitidine as my older daughter had it and it worked for her. So she prescribed some, however, she couldn't work out the dosage, said it would be very little amount. She said I will call you when the medication is ready. The dosage I got was 1ml twice a day, the bottle is 300ml 150/10. Anyway it took about a week to work and I then thought we had it sorted.

Got James weighed the other day and he's put 1lb on, his symptoms are back again, worse than ever! Rang docs to see about upping his dosage and the same doctor said his weight gain isn't enough to make a difference so in I can't change it.

Anyone know how sensitive Ranitidine is? Would an increase in 1lb make a difference?

Thanks

Hi my sons got silent reflux obviously every child is different, and no the dosage does not go up that much but you can have domperidone prescribed along side it which should help and that dosage does go up quickly, and as he gets older other things can be prescribed along side both of them as well. If he doesnt get any better then you can ask to be referred to a consultant. Also just remembered gaviscon can be prescribed at this age too as well as both of the above. Hope this helps x

I sympathize my DS3 had this very severe and was in and out of hospital as would choke and stop breathing along with screaming and being sick 24/7. The only meds that helped him was LOSEC (omeprozole) and even then it didn't really sort the problem till he grew out of it just before he was 2 but it made him less miserable.
