Can anyone help diagnose my DD

Hi, since weds my DD (aged 2.10) has had a temp, been off food, wrenching lots over toilet but no actual sickness and bad cough (not productive). She says her mouth is sore and looks very flushed (even when temp down) been managing with antipyretics/analgesia but decided gone on for long and went to see doc. He said probably viral but glands up and tonsils red so maybe tonsillitis brewing. He said keep an eye on her come back Monday if not better.

Since this morning her tongue has become very bumpy. Like all the little taste buds are swollen n red. No areas of whiteness, tongue doesn't seem sore to touch.

Her temps still 39.5c despite nurofen n calpol x

I'd go back to the Drs again if you're worried, particularly if temp isn't going down.

The temps been like that all weekend, he knew that. Just wondering about the lumps really

How's your DD now?

BeaWheesht · 17/01/2014 19:13

Sounds very much like scarlet fever does her tongue look like a strawberry?

Twighlightsparkle · 17/01/2014 20:17

Scarlet fever, get her on penicillin , we all had it three years ago, the throat thing is so sore, within 12 hours of starting antibiotics I was a new person.

LoveSewingBee · 17/01/2014 22:29

Sounds like scarlet fever. If so, she needs antibiotics so you need to contact OOH and ask for advice. Don't wait until Monday, call them now and see what they say.

Mmmmm just had a read around Scarlett Fever, that exactly what her tongue look like but she's no rash anywhere. She's woke up without a temp n says she's better. Give it a few hours. Would Scarlett fever get better by itself?

Mmmmm just getting her dressed and seen a red patch on her pubis area, not under just on the front of her flower ???

Absolutely contact the doctor without delay. I googled those symptoms and it said rash also that feels sandpaper is scarlet fever as others have said.

lljkk · 18/01/2014 09:34

yes, but can be hell in mean time. And can cause permanent damage. Better to get antibiotics.

ElBombero · 18/01/2014 10:41

Made an appointment via nhs direct, feel abit daft now she says she's better n will probably skip into the room. Had no fever now since 1am, it's just this tongue.

She has a streptococcal throat infection and thrush too. So 10 day course of antibiotics and anti fungal creams.
Lease we've got a diagnosis

wow! Poor mite. Glad you went. Hopefully will turn around soon.

LoveSewingBee · 23/01/2014 20:21

Hope she is well on the mend now. Scarlet fever is a streptococcal infection, so stay on guard that the infection is properly killed off and doesn't come back with a vengeance once the antibiotics is finished. Streptococcal infections should not be underestimated, but you would think that the 10days a/b should kill them off. Good luck.

ElBombero · 23/01/2014 20:29

Thanks, she seems of better. Only a few bumps left on tongue. However the em rash down below us nor shifting despite nearly a week now of anti fungal... Back to the docs if not gone by Monday
