Hi guys, my 2 month old has a cold, been using calpol nasal drops buy he's been really ill today so I gave him the said dose of 2.5 ml,he was screaming the house down I was rushing to get to him,the poor thing. It only occurred to me an he later that I forgot to shake the bottle!!! He seems fine, feed well n is now habing a nap but it's the 1st time I've used it n it says to shake for at least 10secs,I'm guessing there's a reason for this n I'm now panicking.what should I do?

I can't say iv ever shook the bottle that long I have 3 under 5 and if they're screaming at me (mine r clingy kids anyway but like Velcro if they're poorly) it'll get shook a couple of times if that iv never noticed it specifying a length of time to shake for just assumed it said shake well like most things....

Don't worry nothing will happen of you don't shake the bottle.

You're supposed to shake the bottle ? Confused oops. don't think it would make a lot of difference tbh.

Thanks guys, my hubby says all the paracetamol will prob b at the bottom if u don't shake it so he's prob had a dose of surgery syrup wi no para in it lol. Thanks, hearing from other mums makes me feel better :) xx

Grin Not to worry. It is just to ensure the paracetamol and syrup is well mixed. No harm will have been done at all. Are you doing all of the other tricks? Tilting the cot up a bit, steam, sleeping upright, snot suckers, snuffle babe on a cloth in the room, wet towel on the radiator etc?

Hope he's on the mend soon. Smile

It’s important to shake bottle so paracetamol is evenly distributed in each dose, if u are ever worried try calling a pharmacist to advise

@JRI - think they're probably safe, now it's 6 years on!! Whatever prompted you to resurrect this?!
