Nappy rash advice needed

Babyfeet78 · 15/01/2014 14:32

Hi there, my 5 week old has nappy rash, its is quite red. I've been changing her often and only using boiled water and cotton buds, giving her 'air time' with the nappy off and tried sudo creme and also metanium but it doesn't seem to be shifting. Does anyone have anymore advice on any other products to try? Thanks!

zinc and castor oil is amazing as a barrier cream they sell that in poundland, also if it gets real badd i use caneston cream, but my dd is much older, but deffo the zinc and castor,

whats it like spotty and pimply ? or patchy ?

if it gets worse it could be worth seeing your HV or GP it could be thrush.

Make sure you're spreading the creams thinly do that you can still see the pores of the skin underneath.

If it doesn't shift you might want to see the gp about some timodene or canesten - is it in the creases? Could it be thrush?

My ds is prone to nappy rash even though I give lots of airing time etc too. My dd never really had it.

I know some people swear by egg white on the rash but I've never tried that.

I second thrush.

What nappies are you using?
They seemed to have changed the "ingredients" over last few years and many seem to irritate the skin,

If the redness goes into the folds, it is most likely to be thrush and should get better with something like canesten which you can buy at the chemist.

Pampers always irritate my ds bottom and seem to make nappy rash worse. Weleda Calendula cream is good and the zinc and castor oil cream too which you can get both in Boots.

Cooled camomile tea. Make the tea as normal. Allow to cool. Apply to nappy rash area with cotton wool. Allow to air dry. Repeat hourly. Works a treat.

if metanium doesn't shift it I second looking at whether it's thrush .

is it all over or a small localised patch?

Weleda cream is incredible, expensive but worth it.
