Growing pains?

DD is 8, and for the last week has been complaining of pain in her muscle just above her knee and in her thigh.
She is able to walk and run, but she told me today that she had told her teacher at school about it.
I am not convinced that there is anything majorly wrong, and, much as I hate to say it, some dramatics may be going on Grin

Tonight I made her a warm hot water bottle and she said it helped.
Is there any truth in growing pains, and if so, would they last for this long. I remember my brother waking in the night with pain in his leg which the doctor said was growing pains, but I don't think it lasted long.

No idea what caused it but between the ages of 10&18 I had a lot of pain in my left knee used to limp and feel like it was too painful to bend had all sorts of tests and they never found a cause so was put down to growing pains as I outgrew it if it continues tho I'd get gp just to have a quick check

my son was like this when he was like 8-9 years old. he was in so much pain he sometimes scream in he night and the next morning he was fine. that happened many times so i took him to the doctor and they said he had growing pains which was the first time i heard of it. He doesn't have pains now, ds nearly 10.

My dd 7 went through this at the end of last year. Complained constantly of pain in her ankle and leg. In the end I took her to the Dr who said she was fine as she was still walking to school, doing gymnastics and 3 hours of dance lessons every week. I put it down to growing pains as she did go through a growth spurt and hasn't complained in over a month. It did last for about 8 weeks though
