Blood in pants - should I panic?

My 4 yr old son has just shouted me as he 'pumped' and made his pants dirty. I went to him and his pants had what looked liked mucus and a little blood in them. He was, by this time, on the loo and had a lot of wind and a small amount of very red blood was in the bottom of the toilet.

Both me and his sister have had a slightly upset stomach for the last couple of days, so I want to think that he has the same, has strained slightly and ruptured a blood vessel.

He has shown no other signs of anything being wrong - not even complaining of tummy ache - is this as simple as I want to believe or should I be more worried??

Probably nothing but you should get him checked out to be on the safe side.
