Constipation

Sorry for TMI. My 8 year old usually goes several times a day (makes me v envious!) but for some reason today it seems to have compacted just at the opening. He has tried to go and says it just won't come out and hurts. He is crying which is upsetting. I've got him to drink lots of water, eat an apple and have just given him hot chocolate to calm him. I've put in Vaseline & sudocreme to soothe. Is this something I will need to go to the doc for or are there OTC remedies for children?

My ds is only 2 but has chronic constipation due to medical reasons and I'm not aware of anything over the counter except maybe lactulose? But I'm not even convinced of that
Grapes, strawberries, kiwis and mango all good and plenty of fluid.

Your ds might need to get some movicol from gp if the poo is impacted or a glycerine suppository

Thank you, pudseypie.

I had to do a glycerine suppository on my 2-yr old the other day, most traumatic thing ever for both of us! But it worked immediately - she had previously been shouting with the pain of trying to go...

I've given him 3 suppositories now and they haven't worked!! Poor thing is in agony and terrified to go to the loo now Hmm. Off to see the nurse again soon. Glad your dd is better MamandeRose.

Finally got a result late last night.. Poor thing went from tears of pain to tears of joy! Such a relief. Thank you for asking pudseypie.
