Baby Snuffles!

Hi all,

I know babies can be snuffley, especially at this time if year but my 8wo DS has been blocked up pretty much since birth and I'm really feeling for him. He's pretty ok during the day but at night it really causes him problems - this morning he was screaming & swatting his nose and I could hear him swallowing lots of mucus. Also, his dirty nappies are full of stringy mucus that he's swallowing.

I've been using Snuffle Babe vapour rub on chest & feet, Olbas Oil on a muslin near Moses, raised Moses at one end, used saline spray & drops (although stopped in case this is making the problem worse) and having him in the steamy bathroom when we shower. Started using a vaporiser last night too. I've been to GP and raised it again at his 8 week check yesterday & just told 'some babies are snuffley'.

He's thriving & gaining loads of weight (14lbs at 8 weeks) and happy during the day but it's making him so sad in the night.

Any ideas / suggestions to get this cleared up? Thanks in advance x

My dd has been snuffly from birth. Paed (she had green, mucusy poo, so I pushed for referral) suspected dairy allergy so I cut out all dairy in my diet.

It was actually severe reflux. I'd check into both possibilities.

Oh, thanks for your reply. I hadn't considered other underlying causes causing the congestion. We're there other symptoms I could look out for? Did your LO gain weight ok?

My dd was the same, every night fir weeks we were spraying stuff up her nose.

It was the milk on her case. She was instantly better on the pepti stuff.

My dd was very pukey, fed a lot (which as a breastfed baby isn't unusual, but May had been due to the reflux), the green poo, constant sniffles from day 1 with green snot, a cough ... Think that's the majority

She gained slowly, but ds was the same, so I do to think that was down to reflux.
