DD in hospital

My 11 year old DD was admitted to hospital with gastro last night. We took her to Emergency and were quite shocked when she had to be admitted. She is still in hospital now, blood tests showed that the gastro is bacterial and they've started her on antibiotics. The doctor sounded confident that she will be discharged later this afternoon. Tomorrow morning very early she is flying to her grandparents for 6 days. I don't have a good feeling about that, would much have preferred her to be home for a day first. Unfortunately flights are packed and I doubt we will be able to move her to a different flight. :( Just needed to share.

She really can't fly that soon after even a simple gastro bug. You need to be 48 hours post last episode of D&V to travel or be in that close a contact with the general public.
To fly with her the day after hospital discharge would be reckless.

How scary for you. Hope she's ok. Is it a long flight? Hope you get it sorted.

Surely it's obvious she can no longer go regardless of flights.

Thanks. I'm hoping her doctor says the same thing. It's a bit tricky as the grandparents have a court order specifying contact (she's adopted, long story) and if we don't send her we are technically in violation of the order. But if we have a medical opinion that she cannot fly that will be sufficient.

'I don't have a good feeling about that, '

I think you need to listen to yourself and delay the trip.

She might be home from hospital, but it might be days or even weeks before she is fully recovered.

LastingLight · 31/12/2013 12:08

It's a 2 hour flight.

sorry just seen the update. Hope the doctor agrees that she cannot fly.

I would imagine if you contact the airline they will refuse to allow her to fly.

The hospital will write up a note, I'm sure they'd say 5 days rest minimum after such an episode.
