My DD has basically been sleeping at least 12, if not 13 or 14 hours a night right through the school holidays. During term time she would never sleep longer than 10-11.
For the first few nights, I didn't think much of it - she was exhausted from school and had been to visit a friend for a few days as soon as she broke up. However, two full weeks on now, she is still sleeping in until 10 or even 11am every single day. She only got up earlier on Christmas Day because her brother woke her (and even then, it was 8.30!)
I've asked her if she feels ok and she says she is fine (no outward symptoms of cold, cough, sickness or other day to day type bugs). DH thinks she looks a bit pale, but she is pale skinned and clearly at this time of year, we all have a tendency for that.
She is active, eating well and behaving normally. So, you probably say, what are you worrying about!! But it just seems abnormally long to sleep at her age. And yes, she really is sleeping. Falls to sleep quickly at night and when I creep in to check on her during the morning, she really is still fast asleep.
Should I be worried? I'm concerned that when she goes back to school next week, she will struggle either because there is something underlying, or simply that she has adjusted to 13-14 hours a night which just is not realistic during term time. I don't want to rush to the doctor, just saying "she is sleeping a lot" - sounds a bit silly, but equally, I would appreciate any thoughts.
