excessive crying after 6 months?

My DS (first baby) is 6.5 months and i need someone to tell me not to be worried! He has reflux which is under control with ranitidine, and i started weaning him about a week ago- he is taking to it really well. my issue is that he just seems to cry ALL THE TIME. He has his lovely smiley moments of course, but it seems almost like colic strikes again- he probably cries at least 2-3 hours a day (not including at bedtime/night wakings, although generally he sleeps well at night). He's not a great napper and is probably somewhat overtired, and i wonder if his reflux is still bothering him. Distracting and soothing him do help, but i can't constantly dance around in front of him to stop him crying! I feel like other babies his age don't cry nearly as much, and it's hard not to compare. I've read that unexplained and excessive crying should be checked out by a paediatrician, but i feel like i don't get anywhere with my GP.

I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance that this is normal, that i shouldn't be worried, or please someone put me in my place if my expectations are unrealistic! i know babies cry, but i was hoping it would tail off by now.... thanks!!

I don't think this is normal; I assumed it might be with our first and just held her constantly or whenever she seemed to need it and she slept badly and looking back it was all so stressful. It turned out she had a severe wheat allergy and fairly strong dairy allergy. Have you ruled out allergies as could he have stomach pain? Also bear in mind most gps aren't trained in this as far as I know as it took countless trips for us- with me in years at times.

Ps that probably isn't relevant to you but thought I'd mention in case!
