Ds had bronchiolitis last month. His temp was going up to 39.2. He was admitted to hosp and was on iv antibiotics as temp was coming down and heart rate was fast. ooxygen levels were fine.

On Wednesday night he started coughing again so took him to gp on Thursday. Gp is quite elderly and ds was screaming so im guessing ge couldn't hear the wheeze he had and still has. You can really hear the wheeze it sounds like an old man has been running.
Hes been working hard with breathing (goes in under ribs) so took him walk in centre last night.
Nurse said she could hear the wheeze with a slight crackle. She wasnt sure what to do as his temp wasnt too high (regular calpol and the odd dose of ibuprofen) it was 37.4
Ds was alert and cracked the odd smile. So advised to give the atrovent inhaler (gave him it last month from hospital) and antibiotics. She shaid if he carries on wheezing or gets worse or has dry nappy or doesn't feed take him a+e.
He won't take bottle awake. Im managing to get around 4oz down him when hes asleep around every 4-5hours. Hes not taking his solids either (hes a big lad and loves his bottle and has been enjoying his food too)

Wwyd??
He had 4oz this morning at4. He was hungry but wouldn't take bottle at 8. Its 9.30 now and hes had an oz. Hes drifting off to sleep and will try now.

Since last night 10pm hes had 6oz.
Last time they said between 3-5oz every 3 hours at minimum.

Hes up (wont sleep) and is ooing and smiling at his big brother.

He sounds horrid though

How is his breathing now? If he is taken less than 50% of normal fluid intake and working hard to breath he needs to be seen at a and e.

Working hard to breath puts a strain on his body.

Honestly, although I feel like in any post I say go to a and e, with breathing I always would.

To add, In my experience the GP has always said things like well he is presenting well, he is smiling but when been sent to A and E the fact he is smiling is only a small factor, it's the Sats and heart rate that is the biggest indicator. Even at times in HD at 12 months my son was smiling and responding to iggle piggle.

He normally takes between 5-7oz every 4hours plus a bit of baby rice.

Hes hungry. Sticking hands in mouth and all.
Hes picked up (mood) since this morning and is smiling again.
He also sounds congested but doesn't have a runny nose so hes had baby albosol in hot water over fire etc.
Hes still coughing but less frequently.

When my eldest had meningitis and septicaemia at 4months he was up and down.
The night after being admitted he was laughing away.
His sats last night were
97% oxygen and 160 heart rate. She said it was a lil fast but hes working hard

Can you book an OOH appointment today just to check?

Sirzy · 22/12/2013 10:02

I would try offering just a couple of mls every hour or so and how he goes, if he wont take that then get him checked.

If they are thinking bronchiolitis you would wonder why he is being given antibiotics as it is viral and antibioitcs won't do a thing!

Ds was rather ill.
Coughing and choking fit.
He turned blue under eyes and mouth.
We rang the ambulance and he was nebulised in the ambulance and then 2 times in the hospital.
Once his rates settled they sent him home as they didn't have beds Hmm
Ds is not taking feeds.
His nappy was hardly wet from 8pm last night.
I did tell them but 'he looked fine'
Have community children's nurses coming out to him this morning. Will mention again
