I'm going out of my mind. Dh has just taken her in. She has been burning up all day and complaining of tummy ache in her arms and legs. Then she was sick and developed blotches all over her face. I noticed then that her feet were ice cold so DH took her straight to A and E.

She's only three. Please tell me she will be ok.

You did the right thing getting her to A&E. They will do everything they can for her.

RubyGoat · 14/12/2013 20:11

I'm sure they will look after her & find out what's wrong. It may not be meningitis. It could be something less serious. She's in the safest place now. Well done for getting her to hospital.

Sirzy · 14/12/2013 20:11

Are you able to go and join them at the hospital? Anyone to look after siblings? Might help you if you can be there with her.

A and E is the right place for her, let us know how she gets on x

somersethouse · 14/12/2013 20:11

You must be frantic. But you have done the right thing and she is in the best place possible.

Sending you and your DD love.

Pancakeflipper · 14/12/2013 20:12

Poor Timesarehard family. It could be a really nasty virus... and not Meningitis and she is at the right place.

beautifulgirls · 14/12/2013 20:12

She is in the right place now and they will take good care of her. I can relate to how scared you are right now as we've been there with similar. Just be aware he may not have a good phone signal and things take time even when care is given very urgently, so please don't panic because you are not hearing back immediately from him. I would go and pack a bag for whoever is likely to be with her overnight and also for her on the assumption she will stay in and you may need to get to drop it to the hospital later, or get someone to drop it for you perhaps? At least it will give you something to focus on for now. Meanwhile I hope she is ok and that she is just feeling pretty poorly with an unpleasant but not dangerous virus and she will be home right and getting better in the near future.

timesarehard · 14/12/2013 20:13

I am home with the baby and Ds. I will go if they want to keep her in. I am so worried.

I hope she is ok x

My ds1 was like this as a baby. It turned out to be a virus but unknown. He was fine but they kept him in for 2 weeks as only a few months old.
They will do a lumber puncture test or equivalent as soon as she is admitted to ascertain whether meningitis, they told us in a few minutes that it wasn't.
Your dh should be in touch pretty quickly.

Aeroaddict · 14/12/2013 20:15

Hopefully it is not meningitis, but even if it is, you have got her to hospital quickly, so she will get the right treatment straight away. I have everything crossed that you get some good news soon!

NorthernLebkuchen · 14/12/2013 20:15

Very likely it's just a nasty virus but you've done the right thing. What excellent parents, acting so quickly. I hope you get good news soon.

timesarehard · 14/12/2013 20:16

Thanks everyone. As soon as I get little dd to sleep I'll pack a bag. Thanks everyone.

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 14/12/2013 20:17

Sounds like you have done the very best thing. FX for you all.

LEMisafucker · 14/12/2013 20:17

You have done the right thing, acted quickly, so IF it is meningitis and i pray that it isn't, she will be getting the right treatment, in good time.

YouAreMyRain · 14/12/2013 20:18

My dd had a very similar thing when she was three. The cold hands/feet thing was very scary but as I found out its normal for young children with a fever because their brain gets confused with extreme temperatures and does the opposite.
Also, meningitis rash is quite dark and appears on the torso first I think.

None of this will stop you worrying tho! I know what it's like.

Hope you hear something soon xx

MissBetseyTrotwood · 14/12/2013 20:19

I feel for you, you poor things.

You have done the right thing, taking her in. There's every likelihood it's a horrible virus but best to be on the safe side.

Fingers crossed for you all.

TSSDNCOP · 14/12/2013 20:21

Here's a hand to hold.

Pack a little bag with her favourite bits and pieces.

Can you alert a family member or friend so they can come if needed?

She's in the best possible place. Repeat x eleventy million.

Stay here, we'll keep you calm.

What's her name? Tell us about what she wants for Christmas.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 14/12/2013 20:21

And both my DSs get cold hands and feet with high temperatures - mine always throw really, really high temperatures with any illness they get it seems.

EnlightenedOwl · 14/12/2013 20:22

xx

Holding your hand and hoping for good news soon. There are some horrid viruses around at the moment so hopefully it's just one of them, and you've acted really quickly and got her to the best place.

Christmascandles · 14/12/2013 20:35

Holding your hand while we wait for news from your DH Thanks

another hand right here
ds was rushed in by ambulance at 6 months same reasons - he had a virus and was kept overnight.v scary.
best of luck

Goldmandra · 14/12/2013 20:41

It might help you to know that my DD's hands and feet go ice cold whenever she is getting a high temperature and she often gets a blotchy viral rash too.

You have done the right thing by getting her checked out but try not to get too worried.
