I'm going out of my mind. Dh has just taken her in. She has been burning up all day and complaining of tummy ache in her arms and legs. Then she was sick and developed blotches all over her face. I noticed then that her feet were ice cold so DH took her straight to A and E.

She's only three. Please tell me she will be ok.

Holding your hand as you wait for news.

98percentchocolate · 14/12/2013 20:49

Holding your hand. DD had similar a few months ago - it turned out to be a very nasty virus but I remember that sick feeling of absolute terror when I realised that they thought she had it. You have my sympathies. Fingers crossed for a negative result very fast for you.

lagoonhaze · 14/12/2013 20:50

Hoping she is ok. Pack a bag and get some childcare on standby. However if its bad news you'll need to get baby checked.

CharCharGabor · 14/12/2013 20:50

Oh poor dd and poor you :(

I hope she is seen quickly, well done for getting her up to the hospital so quickly. It is really hard to make that call, and scary to need to as well.

I have been the parent waiting at home with the baby, it is horrific and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I really feel for you.

TSSDNCOP · 14/12/2013 20:51

A bike? How cool!! I remember when I got my first bike-the freedom!!

lagoonhaze · 14/12/2013 20:51

Ps we've been here twice before. Its awful.

humha · 14/12/2013 20:57

I hope you get some good news soon times. Everything x'd for you. X

LoveSewingBee · 14/12/2013 20:58

How scary. At least she is in the best place. Hope your DH let the hospital know that you have a baby and toddler at home, because if indeed she does have meningitis they probably will need checking/treating profylactically.

The same symptoms could be caused by a virus, but it is good she is in hospital, you cannot take the risk.

Maybe try to focus on packing a bag for her and you/your DH, with some things to comfort her, favourite toys, maybe something to read to her, to distract her and for yourself/DH, clothes, towel, toilet bag, book, phone, charger, change, something to do whilst waiting, etc.

I hope you get good news soon.

Hi, holding your hand too. I'll be lurking to catch any updates - hope you get good news soon. xx

Mintyy · 14/12/2013 21:04

My ds also had a very nasty illness when he was less than 3. His lips, hands and feet were icy cold and blue, whilst he had a temperature that would not come down with paracetamol or calpol. He was totally listless, had vomiting and diahorreah, but it was mainly the fact that he wouldn't wake up that was scaring me. I was out of my mind with worry but it wasn't meningitis and he made a swift recovery. I am sure it will be the same for you.

JugglingUnwiselyWithBaubles · 14/12/2013 21:06

A friend's dd had meningitis but came through it fine. So, even if it is, she's in the right place for excellent support.
Hope she's back home with you really soon x

weirdthing · 14/12/2013 21:08

Hope she is ok xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

NorthernLebkuchen · 14/12/2013 21:13

What is nice OP is that you've looked at her, made the decision to send her to A&E and THEN posted for support. It's so terribly worrying when parents post listing potentially serious symptoms and then prevaricate about the help needed. I know people don't want to waste medical time but it's nervewracking to read!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 14/12/2013 21:15

She's in the right place op. There's another hand to hold here if you need it. Have you got someone on standby to look after the other dc if she's kept in and you want to join her?

Womnaleplus · 14/12/2013 21:16

Thinking of you all x

Nerfmother · 14/12/2013 21:18

Ds had meningitis. Even if it is it doesn't mean a terrible outcome. He is upstairs now. Hope you get some news soon x

Ragusa · 14/12/2013 21:20

I hope she is ok Flowers

Don't suppose she has recently had MMR booster has she? DD had something similar about two weeks after booster.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 14/12/2013 21:21

My little sister had meningitis twice, the first time at two. She's fine now.

Hand holding. I hope you get good news soon.

WireCatGlitteryBaubles · 14/12/2013 21:22

I hope it's just a virus xxx

Kefybaby · 14/12/2013 21:25

I hope it is nothing serious and that you get some good news very soon. X

womma · 14/12/2013 21:33

Sending you good vibes and I hope she's home and right as rain soon xxxxx

Coveredinweetabix · 14/12/2013 21:45

It's going to be hard but don't go into complete panic mode if you don't hear from your DH immediately. When I had to take 12wk old DS in with suspected meningitis, we were whisked straight into an isolation room which was right in the back corner of A&E and had no mobile coverage. On top of that, I was either talking to doctors, trying to distract DS whilst they examined him or trying to stop him screaming his head off. Even if I had had reception, I'm not sure I would have had a hand free to actually make a call. It was only after we'd been in 90 mins and all initial tests were coming clear and DS had calmed down that I left him for a few minutes whilst a lovely nurse took me into an office and allowed me to ring DP and update him. In our case, DP had stayed at home with sleeping DD and it turned out that that was the best place for him as the A&E we went to only allows one adult per child to go into the hospital any others had to wait in the waiting room.
Best wishes.

Sunshineonsea · 14/12/2013 21:51

Hope she's ok, lots of viruses going around at the moment so hopefully it's just something like that that will pass shortly x

ClockWatchingLady · 14/12/2013 23:01

Hope you're feeling OK, OP. Even though it obviously needs checking, only a very small proportion of children with those symptoms turn out to have meningitis.
Another anecdote: my DS was admitted overnight for observation with similar stuff when he was 4. I was absolutely terrified at the time. It was a virus, and he
was better the next day.
Hope you get reassuring news soon.
