Fever - UTI or nothing?

My son came into our room the other night saying he had a sore ear. We gave him calpol and seemed ok the next days except he's been sporting a bit of a temperature since. Around 38.4 oC. I ask him if he's ok and says fine and that his ears are not bothering him. Should I just leave it or get the GP to check his ears and Urine (as I hear UTIs can cause this),

I've never heard of a UTI causing ear pain! Prob a mild ear infection or virus

Sounds like standard viral thingie. Lots of cuddles & Calpol if he gets too hot.

If his temp isn't spiking any higher than 39 I'd leave it a few days.

I think OP means that UTIs can cause unexplained fevers rather than ear pain?

Yes bea u r right. Darn ipad makes it difficult to type but yes wondered also if UTI due to non spec nature of symptoms. He's had a fever for 3-4 days. He was complaining of leg pain tonight.
