They're coming!!!

Hello fellow mummies,

My lovely DD turned 17 weeks today and for weeks I have had problems feeding her, turns out she is teething! Tonight though, was the first time that I have felt the tooth under her gums.

She seems in so much discomfort so tomorrow morning the first stop will be pharmacy to buy some teething gel. This is where I need your help, which one would you recommend? Also, I've read that there are barrier creams to soothe the excessive dribbling, do you know of any good ones?

Teething is a PITA, but probably better than the alternative

I found teething gel hard to use as DD didn't want me to stick a finger in her mouth and rub something on her sore gums!

Teething powders worked best for us, they can be very calming. Something cold and hard to chew on, either a teething toy or even a stick of carrot (depending on how strict you are about introducing tastes before 6 months). And dribble bibs to catch the excess!

I went to the pharmacy this morning and the lady recommended ashton&parsons infants powder, says it's something they have been using in her family for 40 years and it always did the trick. She instructed that is rub some powder onto her gums 7-8 times a day, however when I read intrustions it says to half the contents of the wrapper dry on the tongue, on dose for morning and one for the evening. May i ask you Thurlow ho you used the powder?

I did buy her a tt cooling ring but she hates it, she's EBF who refuses anything but nipple but I will be willing to try and give her a stick of carrot. Thanks again

We just tipped a sachet in her mouth! She was very keen and always wanted it. Might not have been Nelsons as we used a whole sachet, but probably only.twice even on a bad day

I'll give them a go then, see what she makes of it. She's being pretty good about it all, but obviously in discomfort especially when it comes to feeding. It has affected her weight gain recently as well so I'd rather give her something which will soothe the pain.

Gosh, can't wait to see my hv on Wednesday and tell her to feel DDs gums, she just wouldn't believe me that she is teething and kept on saying she's too young (since 12wo). Feel awful for not listening to myself in the first place and giving DD something straight away.
