My 7yo has some issues with his teeth - he has some decay, in 2 specific places (although the rest of his teeth look pretty good). He is very nervous, and although he needs a filling, would not let his NHS dentist do this (a temp filling was put in but fell out ages ago). The dentist says he therefore needs to have this treatment under anaesthetic, and has referred him to Kings. There is a 3-4 month wait for appointments at Kings, and his issue is potentially getting worse...skin has grown over the decay, and so it won't be a simple filling any more.
My question is whether we can go private. I have the option to put him on my private healthcare through work. However, this is only going to be worth doing in the short term if he is going to be able to get a private anaesthetic. All the clincs I have rung up say they don't do this...and so we are back to waiting months for the appointment at Kings.
Is there anything else I could do? To be fair, he is not currently distressed about the problem (it was very painful earlier in the year), and I am also aware that these 2 fillings would be considered pre-existing conditions and wouldn't be covered anyway...but if he has these issues, it may be worth going private in the longer run.
All advice welcomed!
Thanks.
