Ranitidine or omeprazole?

My 16 wo has Silent Reflux. It's not dreadful and she copes well with it but every 3-4 weeks it spikes and we have a few bad days. I started with infant gaviscon 6 weeks ago and it seems to help but REALLY blocks her up. Like solid and I ended up pulling it out if her with my hand one day. I give her extra water too but she's EBF and won't take a bottle so it's 5ml syringe at a time. Getting the IG and 30/40ml of water in every day is a mission.

This time her SR seems worse; she's really raspy breathing and keeps cough/choking but less hiccups. She still seems to be tolerating it ok apart from frequent feeding as ever (c14 feeds per day)

Any advice appreciated. I want to strike the right balance between medicating her SR and side effects from the meds.
TIA Thanks

The HV suggested Ranitidine today but I've read that it can trigger food allergies and PPI drugs are preferred. Friends have said Omeprazole is good and is a PPI I think.

Who's had good or bad experiences with either for manageable SR. What's your advice?

My LO is on omeprazol after trying ranitadine and it's been a life saver. I found that ranitadine made her more unsettled for some reason. My GP thought I was talking nonsense though... Ranitadine tastes horrible and it was a struggle to give her it 3 x a day. My LO now loves getting omeprazol, it's much easier to administer IMHO and she feeds much better on it.
However your GP will offer ranitadine first and it's worth a shot as many find it works brilliantly.

Thanks Lindsay.
She's got a stinking cold and cough atm which has really caused her reflux to flare up. Hoping I can get an appt on Monday and see where we go from there.
