My sons penis....

My 7yr old son complained his penis hurt a little so I had a look and couldn't see anything obvious. When I pulled the foreskin back though I noticed about a quarter of it was attached to the head of his penis.
Normal ?
Will it right itself ?
Any experience?

Sounds like his foreskin is still partially attached.

My ds had something similar so I took him to a specialist to check it out.

I was told to encourage him to pull the foreskin back every day to help with 'detachment' and the condition should right itself by the time he's 7 or 8 years.

If it's still the same, I'd have to take him back to see if he would need to be circumcised, as it can cause problems the older he gets.

So, my understanding is that it should correct itself by age 7 or 8.
As your ds is 7 and it's still partially attached, I would take him to the GP for advice, or try to make an appointment with a paediatrician specialising in this area.

I read up on 'phimosis' which is when the foreskin is attached. It can take till age 10 to rectify itself apparently. Since ds said it was a little sore I will go to the doctor though.

It can take until age 17 for it to detach completely and unless it is causing problems like recurrent infections then there is no need to do anything with it. DH had a partially attached foreskin until his teens. It caused him no problems and it's completely detached now. DS1 (7) still has an attached foreskin but it isn't causing problems so we'll just see what happens. I think the current thinking is moving more towards not rushing in with circumcision simply because it hasn't detached by an arbitrary age.

Thanks for that bumbley, I would rather wait it out too rather that rush towards any surgery. It's not an issue for him, but we will have a chat with the doctor.
Dh is no help as he can't remember much about his penis until puberty hit !!!!!

madchoc. Yes, I think most men are the same! There are a few other mums on here with DSs with similar issues. Some doctors are very quick to suggest circumcision but there are quite a few in the wait and see camp now. From chatting with others on previous threads we've realised that with the onset of puberty things can ummmm....be 'helped along' a little bit iykwim!
