Eardrum repair

DS (12) has been getting ear pain. He saw a specialist this morning who said his ear drum hasn't healed after having gromits (sp?) when he was younger. He recommended grafting some muscle tissue onto the ear drum to repair it and prevent ear infections caused by exposed middle ear. Two questions:
Has anyone experience of this?
If ds is now saying he doesn't want the op (3 months away) what, if anything should I do?

Yes my son had the eardrum repair done when he was 11.

No problems with surgery or afterwards. He does have a very slight hearing loss in that ear, but i was told at the time that was not caused by the op.

Not sure what you can do about persuading him though.

My 9 year old had this done 6 weeks ago. So far so good. Quite straightforward although a bit sore afterwards. The graft had taken at the four week check up so fingers crossed the surgery will be successful.
