How to recognise a cold sore?

DS (3) has a sore bit just by his lip. It's a bit red and scabby. I don't know if it is just a scab from hurting himself, or a cold sore. I didn't notice him cutting himself there but it's possible. I know if it is a cold sore then we need to be very cautious about hygiene because we have 9 week old ds2. Neither Dh nor I am prone to cold sores so we don't really know what to look for. he says its not sore but it is itchy. Does anyone know how to tell if it is one?

It could also so be Impertigo so worth having it checked by GP.

Oh crikey, that does look like it could be that. Will get it checked out (though it is healing up now)
