A second measles like rash after chicken pox

I've scoured the net but can't find anything on this. Has anyone seen a measle like spotty rash after a bout of chickenpox? I'm worried that even though the chicken pox spots have all scabbed, that this new rash means he's still contagious? We're away from home at the moment and wondering if I should take him in somewhere for an emergency appointment. Thanks mums

Sometimes children get a general postviral rash after they've been ill - could well be this. If all pox have scabbed, he won't be contagious for chickenpox.

I'd get it checked out.

Don't want to scare you, but my DS had a rash like this after the initial spotty rash and it turned out to be a very nasty bout of cellulitis.

I hope I'm wrong!

Best of luck Smile

Is he unwell in himself at all - if so then he should be seen urgently as possible secondary infection. Without wishing to alarm you some of these can be very serious. If however he is not poorly in self then probably not an immediate concern. Keep a close eye.

Deffinitly get it checked . My ds got a measle like rash at the same time as his chickenpox. OOH doctor was baffeled and asked a collegue to come in as he had never seen measles and did not know what it looked like .

Both of them examined ds with magnifing glasses and computer pictures of measles and saisd it was a secondary virus going on at the same time.

Took ds 3 weeks to recover!! can still remember the mess he looked !!
