5 year old swallowed a coin

My ds has just swallowed a coin - a 1 cent coin so I guess a little smaller than a 1p. Will it just go through his system naturally?? Do I need to take him to see anyone?

we went to A&E with ours. She got a nice picture of her ribs, and the coin deposited itself naturally in the loo the next day (aided by a large bar of chocolate my brother gave her). The coin was bigger though - more quarter-sized, so maybe more panic as a result. If he's not choking and you're sure it's gone right down, would just leave it.

One of my dc did this a few years back and advice from nhs direct was to let nature take its course Wink

Providing of course that child is not showing any ill effects of the actual swallowing, like choking.

I swallowed a two 1p coins (bigger) when I was 3ish I think? I did get taken to hospital, where they told my parents i'd be fine, but if it hadn't passed through in a couple of days to go back. One of my earliest memories is watching my mum go through my poo in the bathroom sink- delightful!!! (She got them)

mmm ok he's just ate a big bowl of spaghetti and some sweets. Says he feels alright. I'll keep an eye on him.

Thanks :)

Once had a child in my care do this with a £1 coin (a brownie).

It was pre-NHS 24, but the local emergency line told us to tell her parents just to let nature take it's course. Her dad (when he collected her, because of course there was no answer at any of her emergency contact numbers) was more concerend about where she'd got the money from than the fact that she'd swallowed it.

I never saw her again, but he never tried to sue me, so I suppose there was no lasting damage!
