Child allergic to penicillin?

My DD (5) was recently given antibiotics for an infected bite. She has had a very bad reaction coming up in red raised rash all over her body which is hot to the touch. It actually looks like her skin is burn and it's also itchy. Some of her skin in the rash is even a purpley colour.

She's been off the medication almost a week now and if anything it's getting worse rather than better. She's on antihistamine medicine and I'm putting sudocrem on the rash but I wonder what else I could be doing? Do I need to take her back to the docs? They seemed very unconcerned when I went and just says they would make a note on her file and to give antihistamine.

I also have 2 DS's and am concerned that they may too be allergic. Is it common between siblings?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Really nothing to worry about. Plenty of alternatives available, and the penicillin rash will fade. It took a couple of weeks in our case.

I ask for penicillin alternatives for my other DCs even though I don't know if they are allergic. Some doctors have told me there is a family link, some have said definitely not!! Anyway. as there is a significant family history of penicillin allergy, I think it is more likely so just avoid it.

Ds is allergic as am I, dd isn't. My mum is allergic but my siblings aren't. Ds is also allergic to erythromycin and usually has clarithromycin.
