What could be causing DD's itchy scalp...

Its not headlice as I have checked and combed her head and done a Full Marks treatment just in case. I use a Tangle teaser on her hair and thought I had once seen someone mention that it caused their DD to have problems with their scalp but I can't remember where I saw that. Any suggestions before we go to the GP?
Her scalp doesn't look red but the itching is driving her mad.
Thanks

Does she use shampoo with SLS in it?

watching with interest as my DS is scratching constantly this week! Pretty sure its not nits but no red scalp etc either. Just looking at him is making me itchy!

BrokenBananaTantrum · 01/11/2013 18:23

Sodium lauryl sulphate, I am not sure exactly what it is but I know its in some products, if I buy toothpaste with it in my mouth fills with ulcers and if mum uses shampoo with it in her scalp itches and flakes.

Weirdly I had this just before coming down with hand foot and mouth

Thewalkingdeadkr · 01/11/2013 19:33

My dd is doing this too! How weird. No nits here either, she is 2.5

Thewalkingdeadkr · 01/11/2013 19:33

No flakes either but she has had a sore throat and slight cold/cough.

SLS is the ingredient that makes shampoo foam. It could also be an allergy to the brand of shampoo, loreal shampoo makes me itch like crazy.

I had this and found I was ok when I started using Faith in Nature products - so presumably some chemical or another.

Thanks everyone.
I used to use Original Sprout shampoo on her when she was younger so will switch back to that and see if it helps. It is free from most chemicals so hopefully that will sort it. Its bloody expensive though!
