Skilax for 21 month old?! And lilac!! Heavily constipated with rock hard rocks for 7 months

My 21 month old has been prescribed skilax and lilac by a gastric Paed. DS has had chronic constipation for 6-7 month and has rock hard poo, which is obviously painful to pass. Sometimes he has greenly black loose motions with rock hard pellets.

The Paed has prescribed skilax and lilac to make him have diarrhoea and to loosen his stools. Is this normal?

He won't take prune juice. His diet is very poor because he only wants to drink milk. Breakfast will be 3 spoons of milky tapioca and 8 Cheerios. Snack will be half an egg yoke and crisps. Lunch will be baby food (puréed chicken and potatoes and cheese) and dinner will be milk and a biscuit and a spoon of mac and cheese. He has slowly come to this diet from having a diet of ebf.

We have actually cut out the occasional biscuit now. But I don't know how to improve his diet, he will happily starve for 3 days.

it's normal meds for softening poo.
try also infant probiotic powder -ask in a health food ship, biocare make a strawberry flvour one put in juice or water. half teaspoon daily. this reallyhelped my son.

keep a food diary for a week. at 21 months he should be eating normal food not pureed. why cant he eat normal food? do you offe rhim the food that you are eating so he can try a range of normal every day food? without pureeing it?

what do you eat? he should eat same as you - ask to meet with community dietician to get some ideas how to change his diet so he eats a) normally and b) so he he doesnt get so constipated.

also you can ask for referral to feeding specialist who can help you get him on track. it is so important for speech development.

feeidng therapist will ask what he eats and watch him chew and swallow. wil suggest what you can do to help move him on to eat normal food.

how is his speech development?

how is his motor development generally?

you could try some of the babyweaning type programmes tog et im onto normal food.

but as he is so much older now thah a baby - at 21 months, please ask paed to refer to community dietitican and feeding therapist as they can really help you move on . they will help and encourage you.

Agree with last poster. My ds is severely constipated due to medical reasons but grapes seem to help so I let him eat as many as he wants. My ds has Movicol which softens the poo and really does the trick. Not sure where you are but if uk ask if you can try Movicol next time at the doctors.
