Teenage ds has had a large dark brown freckle/mole on the inside of his bottom lip for a number of years. It never caused a problem and wasn't noticeable without him pulling his lip down. Two weeks ago he developed a painful mouth ulcer over the freckle. He treated it with gel and it's now gone - and so has the freckle!
This isn't a concern; I'm just interested in how and why. I know moles and freckles can both develop and disappear on their own but I assumed this happened over time, whereas it seems as though the ulcer has actually got rid of the freckle somehow.

i should imagine that the ulcer took away the top layers of skin with it as it healed. If anything returns i think he should see a doctor.
