6 yo ds has twisted his foot and cant walk on it. It looks swollen and hurts if I touch the side of it.

I dont want to waste their time if its just a sprain. Should I take him or wait another day to see if it improves??

It sounds like you need to get it checked in a&e if he cant walk on it. They will have a minor injuries department to send him to. Otherwise we have a kids walk in centre that do x rays so could go somewhere like that if you have one local to you?

he will need x-rays, so yes take him in.
if you are lucky it is 'just' a sprain but it might be a break and need treatment.

I didn't with DD, been sent her to school thinking it was yet another sprain. Got call from school and suggested i took her to A&E. She'd broken the metatarsal and sprained all her toes. :( They still never put it in a cast or anything though, just had to be careful.

For future reference, if you have a walk-in clinic with an x-ray machine, always go there over A&E just for lesser stress factor.
