Can anybody give me a clue what could be causing this? Hes getting into trouble at school because he keeps farting a lot in lessons (I think some teachers think hes doing it on purpose!) They have the usual silly rules about not being allowed to go to the toilet. Is there an intolerance that can make them excessively 'windy'?
He does have a horrendous intolerance to anything cooked in corn oil (stomach empties very rapidly sorry TMI) but thats been getting less as hes got older. Please help!

Yes food intolerances can make you windy. How about talking to thego and asking for some allergy testing?

DS1 was very windy, both ends but more burping, until we got his tongue tie revised age 6yo.
