Operation to remove a bony exostosis - tomorrow

DS1 aged 12 is having an operation tomorrow morning to remove a bony exostosis from his femur - that's a benign (as far as I know) tumour.

I posted about this back in May but can't find my posts but I'm just wanting to hear from anyone whose child has had a similar diagnosis and an op. to remove the excess bone. He should only be a day patient tomorrow but I'm incredibly worried.

Would the doctor know for sure that this growth is benign? They've only seen it on an X ray and not done a MRI or anything. Will they do a biopsy?

How long will it take for DS to recover from the anaesthetic and op. and will he be in a lot of pain?

I find that the medics play down all these things but I want to know from others who have personal experience, what DS should expect and how it may go?
