Question about chickenpox

Hi, sorry if this has been posted before.

The 1yo sister of a child in my dd's class has chickenpox. The child in my dd's class hasn't had it and isn't displaying any symptoms so far.

But, assuming the older child has caught chickenpox from the younger sister, could that child be incubating chickenpox and themselves be contagious without knowing it?

I'm wondering because neither my 4yo nor 18mo have had it, and I'm thinking I should prepare myself ...

possibly but you will only know if and when they come out in spots . Would infectious a day or so prior.

Yup - I think the incubation period of chicken pox is 10-14 days. So that's 10-14 days of not knowing if they have it or not! We've just had it in this house. He was off colour for a day or two before the spots appeared. Good luck!

Just as I thought: I shall look out for symptoms. Thanks for replying.

but your dc are at least 10 days to 3 weeks away even assuming the other dc comes out with it tomorrow. Even then it is likely older will have to come out in it before 2nd catches it , so a further 10 days to 3 weeks.
