Quick question - finger bleeding through dressing, should we go back?

I had to take ds (6yo) to minor injuries today as he fell and knocked his fingernail really badly, so the nailbed came out I think - I can't quite understand what happened, only that he fell over and hit it on the tiles in the kitchen and screamed and there was a lot of blood.

We went straight there and the nurse dressed it, with steri strips, but it was still bleeding a lot, and also the finger next to it which was cut at the side somehow.

She had to do the nail one again and add that seaweed dressing material that helps it clot, and that seems Ok, but the other one seems to be bleeding through its rather thick dressing, after a few hours - is this Ok or does it need stitching/gluing?

He won't let me take it off and we have to go to the surgery on Tues to have the other dressing washed off, apparently, so I'm not sure what to do.

Thankyou

How much are you seeing? If it is looking soaked then yes you probably should go back. If it is just a bit of blood visible then keep an eye on it and if getting worse go back.
Don't be tempted to take the dressing off however to check it. If you need to do anything then just add more material over the top before you get further help.

Thanks, that's brill - no it was just visible through the dressing iykwim, not soaking it on the outside.

Seems the same this morning so will wait and see.

Thanks for telling me not to take it off! Will leave that for the nurse tomorrow.
