Is this Chicken pox?

Ds, who's 9mths now, has had a cough/cold for about a month. We thought he was getting better and then yesterday, he started streaming and went off his food a bit.
I noticed a few spots on his bottom this morning but now there are over a hundred, tightly packed pin head spots in varying sizes. A few look like they have burst and are raw, but I can't see clear fluid in any. They are more like tiny little pink pimples with a head. There are also a few on his arms and thighs, but these do not seem to be clustered.
He's had a high temperature of 38.2 and was very clingy and sleepy but after some neurofen, he perked right up and has been more or less his normal self.
I did the glass test and they disappear when pressed, so I'm not worried re meningitis.
What do you think? Could it be chicken pox?

Any in hairline/scalp yet?

No nothing in his hair.

And now?

The development of chicken pox is (from experience, not a medical expert) typically quite rapid and the scalp/ear spots are quite distinctive.

Took him to the GP as he developed more spots round his mouth, but still nothing much on his head or chest.
Turns out its a bacterial infection and his tonsils are infected too.Hmm

Poor thing, but at least you know now! Hope he gets well soon.
