Hello
DD 8mo been off colour since Monday with a cold, took her to OOH docs on Tuesday, was told she is fine.

Woke up thurs morning to a temp of 39.4, took her to the docs and told she has a chest infection (although now no signs of coughing or a cold) she was put on antibiotics yesterday morning.

All of yesterday and all of today she has slept, she wakes for around 20-30 mind then just falls back to sleep
I've just woke her to feed after a 4 hour sleep
Temp still above 38 even though she is dosed up on paracetamol

Should I be worried or give it another day to see if the antibiotics kick in?
She has just fell back to sleep Hmm

How much is she taking when she feeds?

I think given her age I would be wanting her checked out again today - I would even be tempted to go to A and E where she will at least be seen by a pediatrician.

Hope she is ok Lolli x

FatherChristmasIsntReal · 04/10/2013 15:01

Have you tried giving ibuprofen? (You can give it as well as paracetamol). Often worked much better for bringing temp down with mine, esp if they had both. But if you're worried get her checked out, they'd always rather see them than not. Hope she's feeling better soon.

lollipoppi · 04/10/2013 16:25

She had 4oz which is normal for her, and she is having little sips of fluids and has wet nappies so not too worried that she is dehydrated

Temp went upto 39 again, called the surgery but no appts and no doctors available to speak to (useless doctors surgery)

She has just been sick too

Just managed to speak to a doctor at the surgery he said to give her until tomorrow lunch and if she still has a high temp then to take her to OOH

Tbh I'd take her to ooh tonight. If her temp isn't coming down with calpol and she's lethargic she needs to be seen.

cupcake78 · 04/10/2013 18:05

I'd have her seen tbh. It's been a while now and she's only little.

lollipoppi · 04/10/2013 18:29

I agree with you, I don't trust this particular doctor for previous history with my DS just waiting for the surgery to close so it trips onto the OOH number

OP posts:
Sirzy · 04/10/2013 18:30

If OOH won't listen take her to A and E, they won't mind seeing a poorly lo x

lollipoppi · 04/10/2013 19:27

OOH said the same as docs, that just to wait for antibiotics to kick in and if no better tomorrow to come in

Going to give her a luke warm bath and see how she is in an hour if no better with temp then will take her to a&e

TwentyTinyToes · 04/10/2013 19:51

I am not sure bathing to lower a temperature is recommended any more. Just take her to a&e, i would go now. Both of mine have been to a&e in the last week with high temperatures that would not come down. DS was kept in for two nights. Just go now.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 04/10/2013 20:11

Bathing or sponging is not advised for a temperature. Are you giving ibuprofen too?

Curleyhazel · 04/10/2013 20:17

Please don't bath her in this condition. Take her to a&e. She is so little still and needs to be seen by a paediatrician. I would go ASAP. X

lollipoppi · 04/10/2013 21:38

Thanks everyone, in a&e will let you know how we get on x

lollipoppi · 04/10/2013 22:58

Thanks all, doctors just been he thinks it maybe a water infection. Defo not a chest infection (knew not to trust that doctor) They have put a bag on to test her urine and they are going to take some bloods soon

Just waiting to be taken upto the ward

So thankful I asked on here and you all gave me a kick up the bum to come to a&e! Thank you all x

Phew, glad you trusted your instincts. They're nearly always right when it comes to kids. Hope she is soon on the mend.

glad your home with the right treatment

MyCatLovesMeSometimes · 05/10/2013 13:11

Dd had UTI at 18 months old we were told she should have a kidney scan as she was under 2 to check all was ok there - something to chase after she's better? DD infection had 3 types of AB before it responded (we were in hospital as she had febrile seizures with the high temp) so if she's not responding to one ask if she needs another?

Hope she's back to normal soon.

lollipoppi · 05/10/2013 20:23

Thanks Sirzy if it's not one it's the other Wink x

Yes they mentioned that, something to do with scarring the kidneys if not treated properly, the community nurse is going to come out and check her tomorrow but her temp has come down and she looked a lot brighter tonight

Hope your dd didn't have any lasting effects x

Glad to hear all is on the mend. If you can look into changing gp surgeries. I did when ds1 was 9mths, wish I had done it sooner. New gp is just great and always always sees children again if parents worried.

sleepdodger · 05/10/2013 21:21

Glad all getting better
Fwiw gp have to see under 2 same day if temp... They'll understandably try not to if full but do be persistent if symptoms require it

MyCatLovesMeSometimes · 06/10/2013 18:15

Cheers my DD was all ok eventually.

Glad to hear your DD is on the mend.
