Just when I thought I understood baby poo.....

My four month old breast fed baby was doing the wait three to seven days and unleash the poo explosion thing. This was surprising the first couple of times, and the bedroom curtains will never be the same again, but we were getting to grips with it and it was fine.

Then a poo curve ball has arrived, overnight we are back to pooing several times a day, pretty much every feed. It is watery, paler than before and followed by really watery stuff, then bubbles after a lot of straining and seems to be causing tears.

The doctor is not interested as he is 'thriving' by their definition, despite the upset and discomfort, but the doctor is a bit vague about whether this is normal. This is our first baby so we are amateurs in this field so any insight would be gratefully received.

Is there any chance s/he's teething? They produce more saliva which I'd swallowed and when it passes through the gut it can change the consistency of poo and also cause a sore bum.

Does his tummy feel soft? Only if he wasn't going then it could be constipation and then overflow is coming out now which could explain the water and bubbles. If his tummy is soft then I wouldn't worry as it's probably just a phase. Poo goes through lots of changes and could just be one of them and as long as tummy is ok I wouldn't worry.
