Hello
DD had hers removed yesterday and she now has a really sore gum line with raw areas. Is this normal? Also her retainers are rubbing her tongue and are very uncomfortable.. Is this also normal? tia

could it be her retainers that are causing the problem?, or is it now easier to access her gum margin, she is cleaning them more effectively and she has some inflammation which will improve with better cleaning? What did the orthodontist say about her oral hygiene? She probably needs a review appointment at the orthodontist. hth

When my DD got hers removed her gums bled like mad for the first week or so everytime she cleaned her teeth. Her retainers also rubbed her gums a bit too and caused them to bleed. But she never had problems with them rubbing her tongue so I'd maybe give it a couple of days and give them a ring if it doesn't settle down. They did take a bit of getting used to though!

From personal experience the retainers can be cut down, by the orthodontist, a little at the gum line if they are causing problems.

thank you everyone. she only had the braces removed yesterday which left some open sores on her gums from the procedure. today we collected the retainers so very early days but as this is yhe first time we are not sure what is normal.
