What is this skin problem?

DD told me her bum was sore on Sunday. There was an area about the size of a baked bean where the skin was peeling and the skin underneath was red and sore. Within the last 4 days it has become the size of a 50p piece and the middle is crusty and a bit weepy in places. There are also a couple of smaller circles just next to this area which are pea sized and have the same appearance as the first originally did. I haven't seen any blisters but it is in the crease where her bum meets her thigh so they could have popped when she sat down. Went to the GP who said it is a fungal infection and gave us steroid cream.

DH and I are going to Italy tomorrow for 4 days leaving the DC with their grandparents who live 60 miles away. I am concerned it will get worse and the hypochondriac in me is worrying it is something serious.

Anyone seen anything like this is their child?

Hard to tell from what you say, but could it be ringworm? (fungal skin infection, nothing to do with actual worms :) )
Have a look at Ringworm images on Google and if it looks similar then that should help put your mind at rest that the doctor has correctly diagnosed it
Failing that then if your parents are worried about it whilst your DC are staying they can simply take your DD to their own doctor as a visiting patient.

No its much more red raw looking with the top layers of skin gone and crusty in the middle. My parents still visittheir gp where I live as they still own a house here and are weird! Maybe an ooh?

Impetigo? Try googling images of impetigo (warning: not pretty) and see if it looks similar. Here's the NHS page on it - if it is that, she'll need antibiotic cream, not steroids. It can be very infectious.

It does look similar to some of the impetigo pics. I keep worrying it might be staph or a flesh eating bug and she might die Blush.

Sounds like impetigo. She does need to see a GP as it will spread and is horrendously infectious.
