Chicken pox twice? is it possible?

My ds is seven, had them a year and a half ago. Tonight he is covered in spots exactly like chickenpox. Feels well in himself though. Can he have it twice or what could it be?

Yes, you can get chicken pox twice. Is it milder than last time?

How sure are you that it's chicken pox? I had a great book called what's that rash with lots of spotty children in. It saved my sanity several times.

I've had it twice, confirmed by GP both times. Not nice, hope he isn't too unwell...

Morgana444 · 21/09/2013 00:05

Our DD had what we 'thought' was chickenpox. Same symtoms but she literally had two spots. One above her upper lip that has left a scar. We were never sure it was the chickpox but GP told us that it is indeed possible to get it again.

Sorry if not much help. Please try not to worry too much. Know not easy. I think temperature is the main sign as I'm sure you're aware of!

Best wishes

Yes it's possible especially if he had a mild dose previously

amistillsexy · 21/09/2013 00:10

My DS2 had it twice. Very mild the first time, awful the second. I hope it's not so bad for your ds, OP. Wine

It was a mild dose last time. Just checked on him now, he is sleeping. Looks flushed but no temp. Checked him over for spots. About ten new ones round his groin. I dont know what to think tbh, its def something

Yes. DD had it mildly the first time and was really poorly the second time.

BeaWheesht · 21/09/2013 00:24

I think it sounds very much like chickenpox.

Hand foot and mouth is similar but restricted to the afore mentioned Areas and groin

3boys3dogshelp · 21/09/2013 00:30

It's definitely possible to have it twice, but if he's not poorly, no temp etc it could be hand, foot and mouth disease. It's a similar rash but the spots are smaller and are sometimes a bit sore when they first appear but not usually itchy. They can be on the lower arms and legs and in the groin as well as hands, feet and mouth but the body is usually pretty clear. My kids both caught it from nursery as it's quite contagious I think :-/.

Yes dd had it twice. The first time mild, the second time more severe. Both confirmed by gp.

headsspinningforachange · 21/09/2013 00:36

I have had it four times too! Shock Angry

ProudAS · 21/09/2013 22:13

Could it have been hand, foot and mouth first time? Its often mistaken for cp in children.
