Ear ache but no infection or fluid

DS who is 6 has been complaining of ear ache for the last few days. I took him to the GP but they said that both ears were clear and no fluid. Anyone any ideas. Last night when I went in to his bedroom he was badly grinding his teeth. Could this be the reason? If so what can be done?

Ears and mouth are linked through the eustachian tube. If he's grinding his teeth could he have toothache? That might refer up to the ear area. I would get him seen at the dentist.

It could also be inflamed glands causing the pain. It is often difficult to detainee the exact location of the pain. I have also had ears checked and within 12 hours, the ear drum burst with infection so if things worsen, he develops a fever, take him back to the GP.
