Colds prevention- vitamins/herbal??

Does anyone have any tips on any vitamins or herbal remedies which might help dc immune systems cope with the school bugs which are rife during this term?? Obviously I realise there are no miracle supplements, but a little helping hand would be good. It's only week 3 back at school and we're all full of cold already! I take echinacea when I remember but that is as far as I've got......

When they are so young I think it's really hard to avoid all the bugs that go around as they are in such close contact with eachother. I know it's often recommended that you have plenty of vitamin c and zinc to fight infection, so might be worth trying to make sure you get his 5 a day in him and something that contains zinc every day. Also, have a little chat with him and ask him to wash his hands thoroughly at toilet times.

It's not much fun for them or you at the time, but when they are older they do get less colds and bugs - my daughter is 12 and gets about two colds a year - the only thing that bothers her is that her nose gets blocked, but she never gets tired or achy with them (I wish I could say the same for me!).

I know this sounds a bit Hmm, but I cut an onion in half and put them cut side up into a glass/egg cup or other receptacle and place on the bedside and in other rooms too and I find that if any of us come home with a sore throat/sniffle etc that it goes very quickly. You'll see the onion going moldy too. I swear by it.
