How do you keep little boy legs warm in winter?

I feel like one ignorant mum posting this but well, little girls can wear warm leggings in winter. Boys are stuck with jeans or tracks. How do you keep their legs warm for outside play? I have a two year old. It wasn't a problem for the last two winters (snowsuits to the rescue) but this year we need something different......

I've always bought black or grey wooly/thermal tights to put under trousers for both sexes in the winter. Added bonus if not being able to put socks off too.

Long johns :)

CMOTDibbler · 17/09/2013 13:29

leggings or long johns under track suit bottoms and waterproof trousers in the snow.

If you want really warm stuff, look at a company like Little Trekkers

tights under trousers - super warm

WaspInTheHouse · 17/09/2013 13:35

Leggings or tights for under trousers.

Or the jeans that come with a warm lining.

If you are worried about the look, H&M sell "boy tights", and you can get them in many designs on ebay. Leggings too.

I used to put DS in tights under his jeans when he was a tot. As a leggy nine year old, he's now a devotee of those thermal underlayers worn by footballers when training on cold days.

Thermals (Millet's and Blacks do child size ones on the High Street, but Little Trekkers are fab. Their showroom is near me, I could spend a fortune there!

Also, as others have said - leggings, tights, fleece track pants (Gap), lined trousers. Wooly socks! Pulled up to the knees. Welly liners.

Ds chooses to wear shorts all year round (age 6yo). He even went to school in them when it had snowed (although I did send some trousers in in case he changed his mind). He hasn't complained of cold legs yet!
