can children get nodules

My dd is 6.
Her throat has always been her weak spot.
But just lately her voice is getting huskier. Today I could hardly hear what she was saying because her voice was so broken. Is it just because shes a non stop chatterer and shouts everything or should I get her checked out. When she feels unwell and I ask her where she feels poorly she always says it's her tummy and her neck . So is it worth a trip to our GP?

Yes my niece has them at 9. But the are from singing with incorrect technique, not just ordinary singing, but in professional productions. They showed as problems singing in certain registers of her voice.

yes, I'd take a child that age to the doctor with those symptoms. Could turn out to be something like laryngitis or could be something or nothing.

As for nodules, do you mean on her thyroid? If so, you could ask her to try holding her chin up a bit and then drinking some water. Can you see any lumps in the front of her neck when she swallows? (Doesn't rule it out, but don't want to suggest you feel around for nodules on her thyroid, as it could cause her pain if it is a sensitive area.)

If she has hard lumps behind her ears, that's her lymph nodes. I was told it is normal for these to go hard like that when under the weather, it is a sign that the lymphatic system is working hard to fight an infection or other such illness. (Though I'm not a medic, so am willing to stand corrected!)

I assumed you meant nodules on the vocal cords.

Daisypops · 16/09/2013 21:35

Yes lonecat on her vocal chords. I think I'll book an appointment
