My child sees white lights

Complete newbie, so apologies if I'm repeating a previous thread. I'm a bit concerned about my 5 yr old daughter. She tells me she sometimes sees bright white lights in an arch in her bedroom in the day, she struggles to explain it fully but seems really un-nerved by it and is scared to be left in a room by herself. Don't want to make a big thing of it, presuming its just one of those things but at the same time worry that maybe it's an eye problem, any advice?

Is she complaining of headache or nausea as well? These sound a little bit like the scintillating sartomas (sp?)I have had on and off all my life, they're actually a relative of migraine headache, although thankfully my mother and I only ever get the light show.

I'd run it past GP.

If it is scintillating sartoma there is a medication available which stops it really fast.

PS Welcome to MN Flowers Cake Brew for now and Wine for later Grin

actually I think it might be scintillating scotoma Blush

I would also take to GP in case it has something to do with retina detachment which I think is quite serious.

Take her to the GP. Also get her seen by an opitian.

What sort of lights does she have in her room? Is she sensitive to sunlight?

Thanks for your help, she doesn't complain of feeling unwell, headaches etc, just that she sees bright, large circles or arches in mid air. I've heard her say 'go away light' at times, so it's started to freak me out a bit! Think a visit to our GP might be in order.

When I was around 6 I used to see balls of coloured light floating round my bedroom! My sister and I used to lie there together and watch them.. We can both remember it clearly!
Can't imagine for the life of me what we were actually seeing though.

Is there any chance that there is something reflecting light on sunny days? Worth seeing if there is a pattern and the lights are only seen when sunny but not if overcast? Otherwise a trip to the GP is a good idea.

KaBa12 · 16/09/2013 15:29

There doesn't seem to be a pattern if when she sees them, but I can't see anything when she can see them. Really appreciate all your help
